In 2008, a friend of mine who invited me for dinner, asked before I left her house: "Do you want to paint a turtle?". An intriguing question which sparked my curiosity. "Sounds fun, sure! ???" Back in 2006 in North Padre Island, TX, her sister created a fund raiser for the endangered Kemp's Ridley Turtle called Turtle Trail. Since then, every year they have asked artists to let their imagination go free giving them a cast aluminum turtle to "play with". The turtles have been auctioned to raise money for the foundation. So I went home with my turtle and a few weeks later ALUNA was born! If you want to know more about the Turtle Trail Foundation, click here.

The following year they provided artists with cast aluminum herons with the same task for the same purpose and Benu was born.
